Project Drawdown is the world’s leading source of climate solutions.

Drawdown Lancaster is an independent effort to reanalyze and recategorize the solutions generated by the Drawdown team to form a local action plan for our community. We are not affiliated with Drawdown, but hope our work can be an inspiration for other communities. We also hope our efforts are a testament to the value of the work completed by Drawdown.

The Drawdown Lancaster analysis is an evolving work in progress. Rankings and savings will change as we learn more. We present this information to engage people, inspire ideas, and spark action to address the most pressing challenge facing the world today.

Finally, Drawdown Lancaster serves as the basis for Regenerate Lancaster, a 10-year campaign to achieve an economically resilient and carbon neutral county by 2030. After each solution, we’ve created places for you to share comments, ideas, and resources we may have missed. We look forward to building Lancaster’s future together!

Drawdown is the point in the future when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and then start to steadily decline, ultimately reversing global warming.

How we got started

In 2017, the Drawdown team published a book detailing 100 solutions that together have the potential to reverse global warming. Each solution description contains the projected greenhouse gas savings and financial cost/benefit as well as the methodology and assumptions used to complete the analysis.

Reading Drawdown in Lancaster, we started wondering if these solutions could be recalibrated to better understand local climate priorities in our county; we anticipate a shift – improved rice cultivation definitely isn’t #24!

This book was our inspiration. If you find Drawdown Lancaster fascinating, start here:

A regenerative future is possible. We can build a world where communities, economies, and environments thrive.

How to use this information

In addition to a description for each solution adapted from Drawdown to our local context, each solution presented for Drawdown Lancaster contains projected greenhouse gas (GHG) savings and a financial analysis. We’re also including a full accounting of the assumptions we’ve used to generate these numbers.

Each solution contains the following:

  • What we know
  • What we don’t know
  • What we assumed
  • Local resources
  • Global examples

When you find things we missed, or have additional resources, connections or ideas, please share them with us! We’ve included a link for a Google form for these comments at the end of each solutions.

Finally, we hope reading this information inspires you to take action to advance the solutions you really care about.
